What is a superbill for therapy?
An itemized receipt a client submits to their insurer for out-of-network reimbursement. It lists the provider's name, NPI and tax ID, the client's details, dates of service, CPT codes, ICD-10 diagnosis codes, and fees paid. The client, not the therapist, files it.
How does a client submit a superbill to insurance?
Through the insurer's member portal, app or claim form, usually with the superbill attached. Reimbursement depends on the plan's out-of-network benefits and deductible. Clients should keep a copy and note the filing deadline.
