Quick prep

Sometimes you have ten minutes to prepare. Sometimes the previous client leaves at :59. Quick prep is for the second kind of day.

Runs on its own:
Whenever you ask

Ask your Assistant

I have about 30 seconds before this client arrives. Give me only the three things I most need to remember from recent sessions, plus one useful opener if there is an obvious thread to pick back up.

Example

Quick prep

Alex · Tue 2:00 PM · Session 14

  1. Sleep worsened last week, with three nights under five hours.
  2. The conversation about Alex's sister was left unfinished.
  3. Goal 2, assertiveness at work, has not been addressed in four sessions.

Opener: “Last time we ran out of time on the conversation about your sister. Do you want to start there?”

Your most popular FAQs

How is Quick prep different from Session prep?

Session prep runs on its own ten minutes before every scheduled session and gives a fuller brief. Quick prep is the version you ask for when the previous client leaves at :59: the handful of things most useful to remember, nothing else.

What does it pull from?

The most decision-relevant pieces of the recent chart and the treatment plan: what happened last time, what you agreed to do, and anything risk-related or time-sensitive.

How long is the output?

Brutally short. A few lines you can read while the client walks in, not an essay. Ask a follow-up question if you want detail on any point.

Can I use it for a client I have not seen in months?

Yes, and it is one of the better uses. It pulls the recent chart and plan regardless of how long the gap was, so you are not scrolling back through a year of notes at :59.
