The Upheal Assistant Pro add-on

Unlimited use of Upheal Assistant

Written by Aviva Glassman

On October 1st, 2026, Upheal Assistant’s beta phase ends, and Assistant Pro becomes an optional add-on to your subscription. Even if you don’t add Pro to your subscription, you’ll still have access to Upheal Assistant, but with a monthly usage budget.

Do I need Assistant Pro?

Assistant Pro gives you unlimited usage of Upheal Assistant, from questions and insights, to practice reports and automated tasks.

Is Assistant Pro for you?

  • Pro makes sense if you use Upheal Assistant daily or several times a week to manage your practice.

  • Free is enough if you only use Assistant for the occasional question, a document here and there, etc.

Why is Upheal Assistant becoming a separate paid feature?

For its first several months, Upheal Assistant was in beta. This means that it was a new feature, and we were still exploring and shaping it. During any beta phase, we make sure everyone can try our new feature for free as we polish it up and discover all of its possibilities.

You might be wondering, is Upheal going to start charging separately for every new feature? Don’t worry, we’re not! Assistant Pro is an add-on because it’s a specialized, high-capacity tool. Considering what it can accomplish for you, we do recommend taking advantage of the boost and adding Pro. That being said, you can fully use Upheal without it, and we don’t want to raise subscription costs across the board for those who choose not to use Upheal Assistant.

What if I’m on the legacy/past Premium plan?

If you’re on our fixed rate Premium plan, Assistant Pro is included with your subscription.

How do I get the Assistant Pro add-on?

If you add Pro before October 10th, 2026, you can lock it in at $29/month for a year. If you subscribe after that, it’s $39/month.

To get the Assistant Pro add-on, go to your Settings > Subscription.

What is the usage limit?

If you don't add Assistant Pro, you'll have a usage budget, which limits how much you can talk to and get information from Upheal Assistant. It should be enough for the occasional question and creating documents here and there, but it won't cover heavy daily use.

Questions about how to use Upheal, and any help editing existing notes and documents (previously called Smart Edit), are always unlimited and won't take away from your budget.

Why can't you say what the exact usage budget is?

Just like when you talk to a person, different questions and tasks take more effort or (virtual) "brainpower" for Upheal Assistant. Since you're free to ask anything you can think of, we can't predict how much effort each request will take. A simple question, like "What diagnosis did I record for this client?" won't take much for Assistant to answer, since it's just a peek into the client's profile. A more complex request, like "Identify patterns in the most effective interventions across my last ten sessions," would take a lot more effort, since it involves comparing and analyzing multiple transcripts and clients.

How will I know how much of my free Assistant budget I've used?

From October 1st, you’ll see your remaining monthly budget when you open Assistant. You’ll also get a notice when you’re close to the limit, so you’re never cut off unexpectedly. Your notes, telehealth, billing, and everything else in Upheal keeps working regardless.

What happens if I use up the budget?

Assistant pauses new requests until your allowance resets each month. Everything else in Upheal will keep working as expected. You can upgrade to Pro at any time and continue immediately.

Even if your budget is used up, you can still ask Assistant questions about how to use Upheal, and get its help editing notes and documents (previously called Smart Edit). Those are unlimited and don't count against your budget.

Why did the beta and early bird discount dates change?

You, our users, told us you wanted to test out Assistant's free budget and still have the opportunity to get the Pro discount, and we listened!
