Client preferred names

Add a client's preferred name to client profiles

Written by Kit Woodin

You can add a preferred name to a client's profile and it shows up across Upheal.

Preferred names will display for practitioners as Preferred name (Legal name) Last name, so the legal name stays visible for insurance checks. You can also find clients by searching their preferred name.

Insurance claims, superbills, invoices, and other legal documents always keep the legal name.

Clients will only see their preferred name in the Client Portal and Upheal telehealth waiting room, never their legal first name.

If you migrated client data into Upheal that included a preferred name field, those names may now be visible in Upheal.

You can add a preferred name from Upheal in a web browser on desktop or from the Upheal Clinician app.

To add a preferred name to a client's profile from desktop:

  1. Go to the client's profile and click Edit client on the right.

  2. Enter the client's preferred name in the Preferred name field.

  3. Click Update.

To add a preferred name to a client's profile from the Upheal Clinician app:

  1. In the Upheal Clinician app, click the More tab at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Select Clients.

  3. Click on the client for whom you want to add a preferred name.

  4. Click Edit in the top right.

  5. Add their preferred name, and click Save.
