Generating a superbill

Create and issue superbills for client insurance reimbursement

A superbill is a detailed receipt that clients can submit to their insurance provider for reimbursement. When generating a superbill in Upheal, you can:

  • Fix missing CPT codes as you go, so your superbills meet insurance requirements

  • Include only the services you want, and leave out anything that shouldn’t be billed

  • Preview before sending, so you can catch errors

Upheal generates superbills from paid invoices, so you’ll need invoices marked as paid before you can create one.

Generating a superbill

Superbills can cover up to 12 months of services, and you can choose exactly which services to include or exclude.

To generate a superbill:

  1. Click Payments in the left menu, then click New superbill.

  2. Select the client from the Client dropdown.

  3. Select the billing period from the Superbill period dropdown. You can go back up to 12 months.

  4. Check the boxes next to the services you want to include. Only services from paid invoices appear here.

  5. If any services are missing CPT codes, they’ll appear in a separate list below. To add a code, select it from the CPT code dropdown next to that service.

  6. To review before issuing, click Preview at the bottom of the page.

  7. Click Generate to create the superbill.

  8. You'll be returned to the Payments page. Click the Superbills tab.

  9. To download the superbill, click the download icon.

Note: If required client information is missing (such as date of birth or address), you’ll see a message with a direct Update link so you can fix it before the superbill is issued.

The superbill is now created and available for the client to submit to their insurance provider.
